Accommodations and assistive technology

Will the youth need accommodations or assistive technology to be successful at work?

A job accommodation is an adjustment to a job or work environment that makes it possible for a person with a disability to perform their job duties. Accommodations and assistive technology may include specialized equipment, modifications to the work environment, or adjustments to work schedules or responsibilities.

  • Awareness: Understand available employment accommodations (including assistive technology) in the work environment.
  • Exploration: Identify personal accommodations (including assistive technology) needed for employment.
  • Preparation: Practice applying employment accommodations (including assistive technology) at home, school and in the community.
  • Implementation: Use needed accommodations (including assistive technology) successfully on the job.
